at the airport - ready to go!

above the clouds
Our flight landed around 10, and then we caught the airport bus to Khao San Road about an hour later. We were all exhausted but we did manage to have some Pad Thai, spring rolls, and a Chang beer before turning in for the night. After the free hotel breakfast the next morning, it was time to explore Bangkok for the day. We started by getting our nails done (Cassie even got a Dr. Fish pedicure) and then we went to sort out our trip to Koh Chang, an island not too far from Bangkok. Jayne, Cassie and I are planning on chilling out there until Brittny, our 4th member, arrives next week. We set off tomorrow morning at 8.

Most of today was spent on the roof of D&D hotel at their pool...so what if we weren't paying guests? What you've heard is true: Bangkok is effing hot and we needed to keep out brains from boiling somehow. My goal is to be so tan by the end of this trip people think I'm some kind of sexy sun goddess ethnicity that has no concept of the word "pasty". I think I've got a good start.
By the way, other things I'm really enjoying about being here, especially coming straight from Korea:
1. Makeup isn't necessary or even encouraged here. It's too hot and you look a lot worse with beads of makeup rolling down your face than you do with just a regular face.
2. Same with heels. If you wear heels you're pretty much putting yourself in the hookers and ladyboys category.
3. The general laid back atmosphere. Korea is the opposite of laid back. Holy shit, is it the opposite of laid back.
As I continue to travel and explore, I think I'll find plenty more things to add to this list. So far I'm loving the freedom of knowing I have 3 months of this to look forward to. I want to experience as much as I can before I head back to the real world and start looking for a job. But let's not think about that just yet. Right now the only thing I'm worrying about is how long until I can reasonably go eat more 60 cent spring rolls.
I'm loving my life right now.

YAY! IM SO EXCITED/JEALOUS OF YOU GUYS. HAVE FUNNNN!
On the topic of heels, in quite the opposite experience I saw a female cop in Kazan wearing a rather snug skirt with heels. She was just strolling along - on really uneven pavement. It was rather odd, and seemed somewhat impractical. But what do I know.
Also saw lots of short shorts (with hose and heels). Our Russian companion said lots of Russian women wear shorts even in the winter. She was not a fan.
Glad you're having a good time, the bungalow looks wonderful.
