Ostriches & ATVs

The past couple of days we were in Mui Ne, one of Vietnam's many coastal cities. It was a nice place to chill out on the beach, go on a day trip or 2, and maybe even ride an ostrich (what???). Yes, a couple of days ago we embarked on an excursion to Mui Ne's famed Sand Dunes. It was a really beautiful place. I felt like I was in Egypt or somewhere desert-y. Anywho, on the way there we noticed that ostrich riding could be done. I've never heard of ostrich riding, but I guess the spirit of adventure moved me to want to try something unique and slightly crazy, so ride an ostrich is exactly what I did! The result was actually pretty terrible.. the ostrich either didn't want to move at all and had to be pushed, or it straight bolted, causing me to prepare for an imminent ass-bruising. Luckily, I managed to hold on and stay abird (harhar). I actually felt really bad for the ostrich once I got a closer look, since it didn't seem like the people trained it very well, and the saddle had torn out some of its feathers. :( Plus, I probably should have left this amusement to more petite humans, but oh well. I don't really recommend ostrich riding, but if you feel the need to give it a go, Vietnam is the place to be!

boats a plenty

We visited one area with a lot of houseboats which people live on. They use these funny little coconut-looking boats for getting around (or sitting on the shore as the case may be) and they leave their main boat out on the sea.

The ostrich, mid-sprint!

After that silliness, we resumed with the day's agenda of seeing the sand dunes. We decided to rent ATVs, yet another mode of transportation that was heretofore unknown. It turned out to be a blast, way better than the bird! Rather than walking up the huge dunes (walking is lame), we got to zoom around on our little vehicles up and down on the sand. I'll definitely be trying ATVs again in the future! Brittny already promised me a cool ATV tour when I go visit her in Oklahoma. I'm holding her to it!

Seriously, I'm in love with this country. Maybe it had something to do with not having any kind of expectations, and then being blown away out of the blue. I could stay here for a looooooong time. We're in Na Trang right now, and today we went on another boat cruise that was definitely the best one yet. We did some fun water activities, sang a lot of songs, and drank plenty of Tiger beer. Tonight we'll meet up with some of the people we met for a night on the town. Watch out, Na Trang!
